About Our School

The Student Empowered Learning Facility (S.E.L.F.) located on the Compadre Campus is a public/private partnership school. The partnership provides the Tempe Union High School District with local control and support, fluidity of placements, and significant fiscal savings.

S.E.L.F. Compadre provides the highest level of social/emotional support for each student while maintaining the rigor of academic standards. We modify curriculum to meet individual student learning needs and provide therapeutic supports to teach social, behavioral and academic skills necessary for success in school, community and careers. Our special education school in Tempe strives to provide the absolute best care to each of our students.

Program Features:

  • Students in the program focus on core academic subjects and are recommended to attend by an IEP team.
  • Positive behavior intervention supports and social-emotional curriculum are embedded in daily programming.
  • S.E.L.F. aims to support student reintegration to home schools by preparing them with necessary knowledge and skills. Any decision to reintegrate a student will be made by an IEP team based on specific exit criteria outlined in the student’s IEP.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can my child attend your school?

Children are placed at Tempe Compadre – SELF in 2 ways.

*The first is through the home or attending school with the child’s IEP team. The school determines that they are unable to support the student at their campus and a recommendation is made for the student to receive their services in a Level D placement.

The parent, student and administrator will review the IEP and additional information and determine if our school is the best option for supporting the students needs.Ìý

*The second way a student may enroll at Tempe Compadre – SELF is through parental placement with the use of an Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA).

Yes! Students may be parentally placed with an ESA scholarship. Please contact the school office to discuss the options for students with an identified disability and ESA placements, If you would like more information regarding Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship (ESA) program, please visitÌýÌý.
